Parent/Guardian Letter
I am Megan Cummings, Program Director for the Aitkin Youth Center (AYC).
Your child will be asked to bring this letter home to you upon the first night that they attend and register each school year. I will share below important information and what to expect at the AYC! You can read more about my experience and background by clicking the 'About Megan' yellow button below.
➢ I will text you within a week of registration to confirm that as their emergency contact number, I have the correct phone number. I will check for important allergies/medical info. This will also ensure that you have my contact info at your fingertips. Calls, texts and/or emails are welcome. Megan’s cell# 218.839.5508 and email is AitkinYouthCenter@gmail.com
➢ AYC is open 3:30-7:30pm, Thursday & Friday weekly. Closings for holidays and/or due to severe weather will be announced at schools, shared on our Facebook page, and website.
➢ It’s important that you understand that we do not supervise teens outside of the AYC doors. Meaning we expect that your child communicates to you their whereabouts and arranges transportation.
➢ Teens are allowed to stay the entire open hours of 3:30-7:30pm, drop in for just a bit, or come and go throughout the night.
➢ A hot meal, snacks and beverages – all free each night!
➢ Activities, arts/crafts, kitchens skills will be offered as options, however participation is not required.
➢ Safety, respect and kindness to others is expected while hanging out at AYC. If there are issues in any of these areas the staff and volunteers have the right to ask your child to leave and/or not allow your child to enter. *These situations are honestly rare, but we have a zero tolerance for bullying, physical and/or verbal violence and/or not respecting the space.
➢ If your teen is ever asked to leave the AYC, I will communicate this to you asap.
➢ It takes a village to raise honest, respectful, kind humans and we are in this together!
Warm Regards,
Megan
